Last club run: Naches, July 17-19
Doug and John (in John’s FJ-40), James, Holly, Eric and Tony with his family attended. Once again Frank (a friend of the clubthat lives near the trails) graciously let the club use his house on the river as a base camp.
Once there they all decided to go out for a quick evening run to Moon and Funny Rocks
at 7:30 on Friday night. While playing at Funny Rocks Eric proceeded to break a Birfield. Since
it was getting late and he could still steer, they decided to just drive back to camp without
removing the broken axle. On the way back they came across an RV that had lost all its tranny
fluid and was stuck in the middle of the road. After Eric donated a gallon of ATF, the RV was
moved and they got back to Frank’s house at 11:30 PM.
The next morning, Eric jumped into Tony’s wagon and they all headed out again. This turned
into a long day. They got lost several times and Tony collected more dents from the many trees in the area. John’s rig died when he killed the battery. He also thought he broke a Birfield when the rig wouldn’t steer left. Fortunately it turned out to be a rivet from the frame that worked loose and got wedged into the steering linkage. After another 12-hour day on the trail, they once again rolled into Frank’s place in the middle of the night.
Although trying at times, all enjoyed the weekend at Naches.
